Rhonel Roberts’ artistic practice is deeply rooted in his lifelong fascination with color as a powerful language of emotion and storytelling. Inspired early on by Walt Disney’s vibrant narratives, he learned to express rhythm and warmth through bold, dynamic palettes. His foundational skills in tempera, charcoal, and life drawing were honed under influential teachers, shaping a versatile approach to painting.
Since 2003, Roberts has been an active member of the Hunters Point Shipyard artist community, where his work continues to evolve. His process often incorporates masking tape to create structured forms that balance spontaneity and control. This technique allows him to explore shape and space while infusing each piece with energy.
Roberts’ subjects range from portraits and cityscapes to abstract compositions, all united by his joyful celebration of color. Drawing inspiration from travel, jazz, and music, his work invites viewers into vibrant, emotive experiences that transcend boundaries.
