Afatasi The Artist is a world-building visual artist, futurist, and counterstoryteller exploring identity, place, and possibility through the lens of her Black-American and Sāmoan heritage. As a proud generational San Franciscan, her work responds to the erasure of Black communities in her hometown, using art as a tool to confront loss and imagine alternative futures.

Her practice spans wearable art, fine art textiles, tapestry, and recycled metal sculpture—mediums she uses to disrupt dominant narratives and carve out space for marginalized voices. These forms serve as both cultural markers and speculative tools, blending tradition with futurism.

Afatasi’s work is rooted in care, resistance, and vision. Through tactile materials and bold design, she constructs portals into imagined worlds where Black and Pacific Islander communities not only survive, but thrive. Her art invites reflection while offering pathways forward—merging memory with possibility, and presence with reclamation.
