Dolores R Gray
Born in:
Newark, NJ
Lives and works in:
San Francisco, CA
Dolores is a multidisciplinary mixed media artist inspired by her mother and early art classes at the Newark Museum. Her work combines salvaged, reclaimed, and found objects—such as photographs, type case drawers, gaming pieces, and Chinese window screens—creating layered constructions that blend memory, emotion, and nostalgia through a personal lens.
She explores the relationship between personal memory and collective experience, drawing influence from artists like Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, and Joseph Cornell. Dolores creates visual narratives with fragments that act as both relics and symbols, chosen for their aesthetic appeal and rich histories.
Committed to growth, Dolores continues to expand her artistic practice through teaching and mentoring students of all ages. Her work and education embody a journey of exploration, connection, and the transformative power of art.
