Marguerite Browne is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey has evolved over time—from painting and pottery to shoe design, silk dyeing, assemblage, and object-making. Creating has always been essential to her life, an instinctive and continuous thread through each medium she explores.
Her artistic path began in childhood, threading fabric under the guidance of her grandmother, and deepened through formal ceramics study at Fisk University, where she was surrounded by influential artists such as Aaron Douglas and David Driskell. She draws lasting inspiration from her Nashville roots, her environment, her artist mother, and her grandmother.
Browne’s practice is grounded in a philosophy of beauty and repurposing. Her studio is a space trove of found objects—fabric, frames, and fragments—waiting to be transformed. Her work—ranging from jewelry to ceramics—often blurs the line between functional art and fine art. For Browne, making art is not just a practice, but a way of being.
